In today’s fast-evolving digital landscape, technology and artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming every sector from healthcare and finance to retail and education. The corporate world is no exception. In Nigeria, this wave of innovation is reshaping how entrepreneurs interact with regulatory bodies. One standout example is the CAC AI powered portal, a groundbreaking shift in how businesses are registered and managed.
This innovation marks a significant milestone in making business registration faster, smarter, and more accessible. But what exactly does this mean for entrepreneurs, startups, and the broader economy? Let’s explore how this digital transformation is setting a new standard for doing business in Nigeria.
Before now, business registration in Nigeria was marked by delays, paperwork, bottlenecks, and long wait times for name approvals. Entrepreneurs had to endure a cumbersome system that could take days or weeks to complete a simple registration process. That’s changing fast.
According to the Registrar-General/CEO of CAC, Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, SAN, the newly launched CAC AI powered portal is a complete overhaul of the previous Company Registration Portal (CRP). This innovative platform now enables instant name approvals, using artificial intelligence to automatically suggest alternative business names when a preferred choice is unavailable.
Business owners can begin registration immediately with just the National Identification Number (NIN) of a director or proprietor. Once the NIN is verified, the system is designed to generate and send the certificate of registration to the applicant’s email within 30 minutes.
In the past, one of the major hurdles for business registration in Nigeria was the delay in verifying the National Identification Number (NIN), often caused by slow responses from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). These bottlenecks frequently stalled registrations, frustrating entrepreneurs and slowing down the ease of doing business.
To address this challenge, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has introduced a powerful solution through its AI powered portal. While the Commission acknowledges that occasional delays may still occur due to external validation, a smart contingency system has been developed.
According to Registrar-General Garba Abubakar Magaji, the CAC now uses AI-driven photo ID matching technology to bypass NIN-related obstacles when needed. This means that even when NIMC systems are unresponsive, the AI can intelligently match and verify identification, keeping the process moving.
He described the integration of AI as a game-changer for business registration in Nigeria, allowing the CAC to provide faster, smarter, and more reliable services than ever before. It’s a bold step toward eliminating outdated bottlenecks and boosting confidence in Nigeria’s digital governance.
The launch of the CAC AI powered portal marks just the beginning of a broader digital transformation. With this move, the CAC is rolling out even more innovations aimed at strengthening security and user experience. These include the introduction of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and OTP verification for all transactions, thus ensuring that no changes can be made to company records without the full consent and awareness of registered directors.
To further enhance accessibility, a CAC Mobile App is set to launch in the fourth quarter of 2025. This will enable users to carry out registrations, track applications, and manage company data directly from their smartphones anytime, anywhere.
Together, these advancements reflect a bold step toward a faster, smarter, and more secure business environment in Nigeria, driven by the power of artificial intelligence and digital innovation.
